{A JLD Wedding} Erin and Pete

I am so excited to share this wedding with you today. It was a wedding that Topher and I really put our heart and soul into. I’ve been working with Erin and Pete for what feels like forever and I don’t like to play favorites, but…Erin, you were indeed one of my favorites. This girl was so laid back and fully trusted me from day one, which is hard for some people to do. They knew what they wanted, but still fully gave me the reigns to get a little crazy :)

Just in case you need a little refresher- here is their sneak peek mood board…and here are their engagements. Oh and I also instagrammed a few details here too.

So now that you’re all caught up, let’s get into it shall we? This wedding was a weekend long affair, it took place at the Huntsville State Park Raven Lodge which is a beautiful setting and the per-day rental is very affordable compared to typical wedding venues. There are a lot of factors that come with that affordable rate- like very little grounds upkeep, no staff cleaning, etc. to be aware of, but still- it’s a beautiful location if you don’t mind putting some elbow grease into it (or you could always hire a cleaning staff of sorts to put some elbow grease into it for you). We started whipping this place into shape early Friday morning and we didn’t finish with everything until 30 minutes before the ceremony…it was a sprint to get all of the details in place!

Let’s start with the save-the-dates. These probably deserve a post all on their own, which unfortunately I’m not qualified to write. Erin designed these herself and hand cut each set….yes, I said hand cut each set. What you see above is one set. They were magnet paper dolls and I am madly in love with them. Erin, if you ever want to give us the 411 on these things we would love to hear it!

Shout out to Topher for making this awesome sign! I of course did the painting, but as for the construction I would have no idea how to go about making something like this so I am so thankful he tackles these things for me! Erin and Pete DIY’d these programs and they were adorable!

These streamers led the way to the ceremony which took place behind the lodge.

A little drink station action to welcome the guests.

Erin really wanted the event to have a scent memory- so we added rosemary and lavender just about anywhere we could! This was hanging from the lodge awning and looked especially lovely.

Could this ceremony location be any prettier? Oh my word, I am all about it. We did a simple swagged ribbon backdrop- we wanted something pretty, but nothing that would block that gorgeous view.

I special ordered this lace for the bouquet from Etsy- it was antique English lace- a special detail for Pete (who is British). Granted I think I was the only one that knew about it until now…but little details like that make me smile.

After all of our worries about the weather, the day turned out beautifully- it was slightly overcast which makes for beautiful photos. We did get a bit of rain towards the end of the evening and we were all thanking our lucky stars we ordered a tent.

Erin really wanted to DIY her own flowers- which I thought sounded like a blast to me. I have been working on my flower skills after all and I came up with the idea to allow me to act as her florist, but Erin, her family, and friends could come up on Friday to help out. It worked out perfectly, I had a total blast making all of the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and a few other special items and Erin and her friends assembled the centerpieces and all of the rosemary and lavender bundles. A family of florists I tell ya- they did good!

A tip for outdoor weddings- put gravel in the bottoms of your vases to keep them from toppling over on a windy day. I’ve seen it both ways- perfect weather with no wind and everything stays put just fine, but I learned at one of my earlier weddings this year that if it’s windy- vases will go flying…and crashing. So now we make sure we have a bucket of gravel with us at every outdoor wedding.

Delicious food by my newest favorite caterer- Michael and his team from Master Chef are amazing. This was our first wedding together and we promptly hired him again for an event we had two weeks later. Come to think of it, I have another tasting with them today for one of my April weddings. Their food is tasty and gorgeous no less.

Now for my favorite part- the dessert table of course.

This picture doesn’t do these little luminaries justice. We lined them along the wall surrounding the reception and they were so charming. Erin and Pete made these themselves and they followed this Martha Stewart tutorial.

    Jennifer,

What can I say? Everything about that day was PERFECT and it was pretty much all because of you (I mean, marrying Pete was pretty nice, too). Every detail you thought of was just so wonderful, and that little detail about the lace (which I indeed did not know!) just shows how much love and thought and care you put into our wedding. You (and Topher!) are the BEST.

Jennifer, you did the most amazing job with this wedding! Without you and your ideas and talent, this would just have been a plain, simple wedding. Instead, you helped make it the best wedding I have ever been to. It was relaxed and so much fun. I have heard so many comments from our guests saying that it was their most favorite wedding ever. The setting was beautiful, the decor and flowers were just amazing and it was thanks to you. Also, I cannot believe the physical work you had to do. I know I was exhausted afterwards and you worked so much harder. Thanks again for making my daughter’s day so perfect!
